Describes the focus and substance of the book.
Any book written by Eric Hobsbawm is worthy of attention. Hobsbawm includes the working class along with the other groups in his studies. This is the third of a quartet that covers the the 19th and 20th centuries. The focus in on the economic and social factors which form the foundation for political change and the expansion and domination of western Europe for the rest of the world at this time.
