I bought this book because it was the official guide to the famous Age of Reptiles mural at the Yale Peabody Museum. Ever since I first found the 7 Sept. 1953 issue of LIFE magazine in my grandparents garage at age 5, fueling a lifelong love of prehistoric animals, I have been collecting information on this mural and pop culture reproductions of it. That being said, this is an excellent book. Although Zallinger's images are seriously outdated, they were state-of-the-art at the time. The guide brings up to date on discoveries that have been made in the decades since The Age of Reptiles was painted and there is a lot very good information on the artist Rudolph Zallinger and the making of the mural. Lastly, the book includes a very long pullout reproduction of the entire work.
The Zallinger mural is the greatest dinosaur painting ever completed. This volume is extra large and so the pull out mural reproduction is particularly satisfying. Highly recommended
