Age of Empires II was already a very well done game and The Conquerors expansion fixes almost all of the few problems that The Age of kings had. A very welcome upgrade is that your villagers are much more independent. If you get some of your villagers to build a lumber camp, you don't have to tell them to start gathering wood when they finish. Right when they finish building it, they'll head for the nearest trees and start cutting them down. The same goes with mines and farms, giving you more time to tend to other matters. You can also set farms to automatically replant themselves. There are five new civilizations you can use ( Aztecs, Huns, Koreans, Mayans and Spanish). The Aztecs and the Mayans have buildings look very unique, but the other three are pretty much the same as the civilizations in The Age of Kings. As for new units, there are Eagle Warriors, Jaguar Warriors, Plumed Archers, Conquistadors, Tarkan, Petards, Missionary, War Wagons, halberdiers and hussar. There is also a new Korean unique unit, the Turtle Ship. There are some new powerful technology upgrades. There are also three new game types such as king of the hill, wonder race and defend the wonder. Other than that, the only real change in the overall game is the music and the little street that makes up the main menu, which is now covered with snow. The random map is still as good as ever and will keep you busy for a long time (at least it has for me). The new civilizations don't add a whole lot of new content and aren't much different then the ones that are already in The Age of Kings. Overall, I wish that the new civilizations had a more unique feel to them, but the new units and gameplay patches are worth it.Read full review
This game is great, it can even be used as a teaching utility, it has the the importants of mercantilism, castles, neighbors, allies, war, mercanaries and the feudal system. Players can also take campaigns that tech them about great leaders, such as Saladin, Atilla the Hun, El Cid, and even Joan of Arc. You can ally with computers or peopple, but if 2 or more human players are one color, theycontrol the same character. This game can be played with up to 8 players, you need to play online or with the network to be able to play with more than one human player, but you still can play with up to 7 other computer players, and the campaings are only one player. Those of you that just want a good gaming experiance, the graphics aren't that good, but it is challenging enough, (if you don't use cheats) the game has different random maps such as coastal, or islnads, but aslo has real world areas, such as the Middle east, or Spain. It has many nations, the Aztec, Mayan, Spanish, Teutons, Huns, Goths, Vikings, Celts, Japanese, Chinese, Turks, Britons, and Franks just to name a few. Different civilizations have different speacal abilities, like the Spainards can research things from th blacksmith for only costs of food. The Huns don't have to, and can't build houses. the teutons have exeptional warriors with exeptional technology, but are slow starters. If you dont' have Age of Empires Age of Kings, you need it to play this game, because, well, its an expansion. Those of you who already have the Age of Kings, this game allows more civilizations, like Huns, Aztec, and Mayans as said before. You are also allowed to put up to 4 foot units inside rams, 6 in siege rams, but archers canot shoot out of the rams. as well as all these other great things, every civiclization has a speacal unique technology (or 2) and might even have 2 speacal units, like the Koreans have the turtle ship and the war wagon. Over all I love this game, even better that Age of Empires 3, and I think you really aught to get it.Read full review
So you got the first part and it was pretty good. So why do you need the expansion pack? Well with 4 new civilizations, tons of new technoligies and warriors, it adds a whole new dimension to the game. Whether you are playing a campiagn, fighting the computer, or playing online versus real people, this expansion keeps you coming back again and again. With Hundreds of thousands new maps in several new catergories as well as several new styles of multiplayer the fun never ends. On another note the campiagn version of the game follows real campaings with surprising accuracy. Whether they are followng the Aztecs or El Cid everything is historically accurate. Why not introduce a little history into your child why they have a ton of fun!! Their is very little wrong with this game. A very small amount of blood will surrond a dead warrior aside from that their is nothing. This game deserves a 5/5 simply because the game is great!! The fun never ends with this game and I reccomend it to everyone.Read full review
Man I love how you can make maps and dirct and conduct war. this is a very fun and a good rts. There isnt one bad thing about it. The music is very medevil and good and the graphics are decnt it is a very fun game to play. It has a quick instalation and it is easy with only one disk and isn't hard on the computer. fun to play on the internet also. The a.i is good but playing with other people is a lot more fun to do. The graphics arnt stunning but are good and the a.i is decent but if you use cheats the hardest setting with the a.i is really dumb and they do stupid and impossible things. and sometimes they dont do anything depending on the map. but besides all of that it is a verry good game and funnnn.
I'm new to playing video games and this one is truly mind boggling!! It takes concentration and more skills than i have, but i'm not going to give up!! The games seems quite interesting.
