Aces, the first book covering Aces in Air, Sea, and Land, sets a good example to start with. There are line drawings taken from photographs of the aces themselves, usually with their mounts, at least for the pilots, or at least a drawing of their features. There are usually 3-views of the aircraft involved, and also of tanks and submarines, in Aces 2 and Aces 3. These books are recommended, although the 3-views of both Rechkalov's and Pokryshkin's Airacobras are
great reference book to have around if you are into aviation modeling. this book has great fotographs as well a color drawings.
