This is a very touching book about what life was truly like in Ireland back in the 30's, 40's. Does touch a bit on the US ,but not much ,as most of the book is spent during the time Frank grew up in Ireland. I knew living conditions & poverty were bad back then, but to really read from a first hand tale is very eye opening. After you are done with the book you want there to be more and so there is....his second book is good too, but that is another review!
Frank McCourt gives a soul awakening balance act between depressing and cynical. I had to read this for a class on England and Ireland, and could not be happier that it was assigned.
