I've owned a ton of control surfaces over the years. This one would be perhaps the most pointless. It's a thousand dollar device that will slow you down. The point of a good control surface (or any controller, from a Wacom tablet to a mouse) is to speed up your workflow. It's supposed to help you do things more efficiently. Put commands at your finger tips. The faders on this panel fit the bill. But you only get 4 of them. The rest of the device is taken up by a touch screen that is much less responsive than a typical cell phone. And a shuttle knob that you have to reach for, unless you're a lefty. Great faders on the Artist Control, but check out the Artist Mix. It's more useful because there are 8 faders and you get select, mute, a trim pot, and a digital scribble strip. So if you need a few faders, buy the Artist Mix, not this device. The shuttle knob is way over on the far right of the device. Unless you're a lefty, you're going to be reaching a lot. It's also a rather small knob and there's no jog mode. J-K-L is a better option. The touch screen. Well it is the big draw to this device, right? The UI is horrible-- right out of 1990. With a display like this, there is little excuse for coming up with the most bland design imaginable. The buttons are too small for larger size fingers (though they do offer different sized buttons in software.) Worse, the touch part of the touch screen isn't very responsive. But the biggest problem-- is what you map to the touch screen. OK, let's put a bunch of audio tracks to toggle-- well your keyboard is right in front of you at your fingertips and it's a thousand times faster in responding-- and it's-- right in front of you! There's nothing this fancy, slow touchscreen gives you that your keyboard and mouse cannot do. The driver loses custom pages occasionally, and resets to default. Inevitably the one button you want is buried on the third page and you have to button over through the pages to get to the command you want to... Oh jeez, just use the keyboard! Don't even try a gesture, there aren't any here. It looks pretty. It looks 'professional'. It's built well. Think of it like a Rubik's cube for your desktop. It occupies space, but you're never going to use it much. Of the Artist series, the Mix is the most useful, followed by the S3, which is around $4000. The Artist Color would be my third choice. This device is tied for last with the Artist Shuttle. Blingy, but rather pointless.Read full review

An amazing controller, works with cubase and alot of other software. Anything Version 2 or after is great, the screen is bright and can see on an angle unlike version 1. The faders are alps I think, they are fast. Once you get used to making your own layouts it is fun!
