I use mineral makeup and while it looks good, using the amount I need to get the coverage I want is way too masky and fake looking. Tried nearly a dozen brands of primer (some drugstore, some Sephora $$$$) but nothing has been as good as Smashbox photo finish light. I used Smashbox photo finish but felt like I wished they had one for oily skin like mine - now they do, yay!!!!. I'm on my second bottle (it lasts a long time, I buy one about every 4 mos). It makes your skin look so much better just putting it on -- then using makeup over it, you use way less makeup and look flawless. It helps control oil but doesn't make little lines worse and best of all, you don't get that gross "makeup turning orange" thing or fadeout at some point in the day when you use Smashbox primer underneath foundation. It was especially awesome during some really nasty gross humid days this past summer. I stayed looking fresh. This was the only product I used that did that.Read full review
I bought this product because it has been recommended to me by several friends. It was about $10 cheaper on EBay than it is from Smashbox or any other beauty store. This primer goes on smoothly and very sheer. It is not thick or heavy feeling, it is weightless. It dries quickly and allows my make up to last a full 8-10 hour work day. I also spread it onto my eyes so my eye make up and liner will stay all day. I have never used a primer before so I have nothing to compare it too, however, I now see why women do wear primer. The only thing I dislike is that it does not spread to as much surface area as I would like, but I do not cover every inch of my face so it does not bother me much.
I have tried the cheaper ones, and more expensive primers. For me, with 60 + old dry skin, Smashbox, the clear one, works the best. It makes the fine lines a lot less noticable and gives a smoother finish overall. I do not use it the way the makeup experts suggest. First I use concealer in my worst areas. Then the primer and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then I use concealer again, followed by foundation. Then I powder with the stay put powder like Estee Lauder Doublewear or the brand from the lady who wrote "Don't go to the cosmetic counter without me". ..Paula something. It stays well all day. If I am going out again at night, I just repowder.
I live in a place that is well-known for its warm and sometimes humid weather. This can sometimes be a challenge for my make up. When I first moved here, I had daily problems with getting my make up to stay on my skin, as it tended to "melt" away after a few hours, leaving my face looking oily and shiny. I then came across the photo finish light primer and I've been addicted to it ever since!! This amazing product ensures that my make up stays perfect all day long, at the same time as it decreases my pores significantly!! I usually apply it over my daily moisturizer to prevent my skin from getting dry, and I also use it over my sunscreen so that my face does not look oily or shiny when I go to the beach. I cannot live without this product! Would recommend it to anyone!
I wouldn't paint my wall without primer - I wouldn't apply makeup without Smashbox primer. Whenever anyone tells me my skin doesn't look my age. I say "Smashbox!" Whenever friends complain about makeup problems, I say "Smashbox!" I've tried almost everything else, from dermatological brands like Iredale to very high end cosmetics lines. For me, Smashbox beats them all . One little however, though, I find that (again, for me) the clear works much, much better than the light - it seems to make my skin a smoother canvas to accept makeup. I have oily skin and at first I was worried about the feel of the clear Smashbox, but once on, the consistency of the product became smooth and light with no oily feel.
