ANNABELLE is set in the 1960s, and gets points for its vintage costumes and sets. The acting is good. However, I expected something a bit scarier and more original. If you've seen THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, or pretty much any haunted house or possession movie, you've seen everything ANNABELLE has to offer. The doll itself is creepy looking, levitates, and re-appears after being thrown in the garbage. Otherwise, the paranormal activity doesn't center around the doll specifically. The scariest scene takes place in the basement of an apartment building when the doll isn't present. The priest (not an exorcist, but an ordinary parish priest) takes one look at Annabelle and (correctly!) explains what is going on, even though up to that point he has witnessed nothing strange, he only has the word of Annabelle's owners who are new to his parish. This efficient cut to the chase seems unlikely.Read full review
This movie has moments where it just keeps you in suspense! Some parts are predictable but for a scary movie I think they did a job at keeping it entertaining!
