I bought this Stihl used with the nikasil 56mm top end upgrade. When I first got it; there were a couple of issues that needed fixing. There were 2 missing screws; one in the handle (should have been obvious), and one in the bottom. However, it started up and ran strong. This saw had 170psi compression; with out the compression relief valve, I don't think I could have turned it over! The first thing that happened was the gas cap started leaking, also there seemed to be a pinging in the motor, though it ran well with lots of power. I had a spare plastic gas cap and fixed that. I was running a mix of 89 octane (mid-grade) gas, that was recommended for my other saws. So, I bought some 93 octane gas to compensate for the higher compression the 460 was showing. After this, she ran like an angry grizzly. I currently have a 28" bar on her; but also bought a 36" bar for future use. I would recommend this saw for anyone. The only other issue I am having is spare parts. I have had a replacement air-filter on order for 6 weeks, and still have not got it. I also had trouble getting replacement screws for my MS391; it took me a month to get some replacement parts for it. My advise would be: buy an older Stihl (made in Germany), and stockpile some spare parts while you can, and you will have a saw that will last your lifetime!Read full review

I accidentally ordered 2 sets of these from different outfits. I thought that, since I had my saw disassembled, I would go ahead and replace the original buffers. But they were in good shape, so these will be put in the parts box. Just pay attention to the one on the handle, it will wear out before the others usually. Depending on your ability to use finesse with wedges, or just tug until the saw comes out of a hang up.

Hey man, if you don't think you need a set of these felling spikes, think again. I bought a set for my MS660 and a set for my 461R. I love both saws and I really love them now that they are equipped with Piltz spikes. We cut alot of hedge here and it is extremely hard wood. Whether felling a tree or buzzing it up for posts, it is of utmost importance to be able to use the spikes to bite into the wood and let the saw do the work. I can assure you, Piltz spikes do just that. I would strongly recommend these spikes to anyone interested in improving the performance of your saw. The factory spikes are O. K., but they don't hold a candle to Piltz spikes.

Stihl ms660 chainsaw made for the more experienced user and made to last under the most taxing conditions. If you need a powerful workhorse of a saw with a big bar for big jobs, then this is one of the better options out there. These saws are made for every day use several hours a day of continuous non stop use. If used properly with oem mix oil and high grade Eo fuel this saw will last for a long time. Keeping the saw serviced and air filter clean will asure the user of at least 2000 hours of hard use before a more in depth service on engine would be required. This can be a very dangerous tool if not used properly. Be sure to read the owners manual as well as any safety information related to the product. Tighten your boot laces and strap your chaps cause your gonna make some sawdust with this one!Read full review
