I have always loved AKG equipment, esp. the studio headphones. Decided to try the D7 because it was new and I expected it to be better than the D5 which was always just so, so. It is. The D7 needs no phantom power but it sounds better to me than the Shure Beta phantom condensers. Its got that upper midrange wide and open yet gives the illusion of a some well tuned compression is already on it. I love that. Then I put my DBX compressor in the send/returns and it just comes alive. I gotta get several more. I may dump my 57's and 58's.

Very good sound, specialy for female voices and the best look microphone.

I thought this mic would sound good. First time I used it, it proved to be great. Easily compared to several of my hi end condenser mics that cost 5-6 times more, Very similar to an $800 Sennheiser e965 in clarity, feedback rejection. It is now in my bag of top 10 mics.
A major step up from the D5, the price difference is more than worth it. The clarity is phenomenal. Great at noise rejection. Super durable for constant gigging.
