Lena Headey plays Kaisa, a lovely Scottish woman who's become successful in London as a lawyer. Never mind that she snorts cocaine and has sexual one-night stands with strangers. She's got her life together enough. That is, until her mother, played by the every seductive Charlotte Rampling, calls Kaisa from Aberdeen pleading for her to fly to Norway to retrieave her alcoholic father, played by Stellan Skarsgård, from whom she's been estranged for many years. Kaisa is reluctant, but agrees to go. The reason her mom, Helen, gave Kaisa was a ruse: Helen's dying. Before she dies, Helen wants father and daughter to be reunited. Their trip's complicated when Tomas is too drunk to fly and Kaisa gets erupts about it in such a way that gets them banned by the airline. Instead, they travel on by ferry, then via car. But, wind up needing help from a sweet lorry driver named Clive (Ian Hart). Their traveling is a metaphor for the complexity of physical and emotional journeys they each take.
