The book follows Barbara Cameron as she leaves a very controlling father to marry a very controlling husband, raises 4 children - 2 of which go into into highly successful TV careers. As the Hollywood success grows her marriage crumbles which leads her to make choices that threaten to destroy her entire family. Through out the story you see a closeup look at the highs and lows of raising child stars, and the highs and lows of a unhappy marriage. The book is both funny and sometimes sad at the same time. All the way through the book I kept thinking how very brave Both Barbara -and particularly husband Robert- are as we see them at their very worst making mistakes at raising their Hollywood - and non Hollywood children. This family is fascinating because they were average everyday American family- swept up to the top of Hollywood, and going from atheists to Born again Christians by the end. Though some of the choices Robert and Barbara make are sometimes really terrible, you can't help but root for this family and really come to like them. This is a Christian book, published by Kirk Cameron's Ministry The Way Of The Master, but it is subtle in it's approach to the gospel message, We see Barbara using her Christian upbringing to get her through tough times, and she sums up her testimony very clearly at the end of the book. But many of her problems discussed through out the story don't typically make it into Christian publications, so it is a good read for a non christian as well. As a child of the 1980's I bought this book as a fan of both Kirk and Candace Cameron (Growing Pains/Full House) I thought it was going to be a fun look at a Hollywood family- a little nostalgia. It turned out to be much more. I was greatly surprised by what I found. Excellent read- buy it today !Read full review
I love the fact that this book is signed by Kirk Cameron's mother and look forward to reading it soon.

I thought it interesting and didn't take me long to read it. I bought it on account of Kirk Cameron and his sister and was interested in reading about how they were raised for them to have turned out so well.
I have watched Candace & Kirk on sit-coms for a long time since they were children and I was interested in their acting on each dramas. I think their mother had her strong spirits & minds to growing her children. It is so interesting to see their many black & white photos in the book.
