It is true that this was a film from a different time. Still imaginatively engaging, shocking and more than a little bit disturbing. At first you just watch, slack-jawed, as the story unfolds. It's unflinching look at senseless violence for "thrill's" sake still weilds a staggering punch. It makes you wonder why. It makes you feel sorry for the victims and then it makes you feel sympathy for the perpetrator of these horrendous acts. I think most of all it leaves you questioning yourself and society. Is there some loss we feel when a pure, undiluted specimen of unbridled power and dignity loses that power? We all feel sorry for the helpless deer but when we see things from a different angle we feel sorry that the lion has been rendered helpless .Suddenly the deer is the perpetrator of heinous acts and we wish the lion had nis honorable prowess back. I find myself thinking "they would never get away with their deplorable behavior if the lion had his claws and teeth back again." And so it goes, the story of the circle, the pecking order. Is it fair? Is life fair? Why can't we all just be friends?Read full review

I have heard of this movie for many years. It is a prophetic portrayal of future society. Sadly it is to close to modern reality and the rampant criminality rampant in our country. Not a great movie but a good quality blue ray dvd.

I remember watching this movie in the 80's and thinking "I can't believe this movie is 15 years old!". The cinematography is outstanding - the staging of even the most mundane scene, use of camera angles / slow-motion, and building suspense by pairing classical music to graphic violence. Now, 20-some years after that statement the film is 41 years old. In my opinion, it still stands as one of the most technically sophisticated and masterfully edited works you'll see. Of course it is very graphic - really much more in terms of sexual content than brutal violence. The setting is in the "not too distant future". Young gangs spend their evenings brutalizing innocent victims. All the now "classic" depictions of the future state of the world are there: Big powerful government, trashy streets and crime, and of course the underlying theme is the violation of human rights. Doesn't sound like something you'd be interested in? Well let me tell you, this movie visually sucks you in. If it were not so well made, you may otherwise decide it's too violent to view. But the pure artistic value keeps you watching - even without the aid of eye clamps. Will everyone love this movie? No. But I suspect more will than won't (Yeah, I was cured alright) The reasoning behind a 4 instead of 5 star rating is based upon the product itself. There's just not a lot of decent special feature material there. If you've not yet viewed this film or have, and would just like to add it to your collection, you won't be disappointed. You may fall just short of dancing and signing in the rain, but you will think of that song always.Read full review
When this movie came out in 1971, I was only five years old so, needless to say, I did not see it until I was in my teens. This was one of those - "underground" - type movies that, when you are a teenager, you hear about as a - "You have to see it" - kind of thing and when when my buddies and I finally got our hands on a VHS copy, well, it left quite an impression on us to say the least. Being quite impressionable in my early teens, I can tell you that I am still moved every time I watch it and it is definitely one of my all-time favorites, if not THE best movie I have ever experienced. Only because of this movie, likewise, Malcolm McDowell has become one of my favorite actors as well, although I have not seen him in any film that was better than this classic work. The futuristic music interspersed with the classical rendition of Beethhoven and Singing in the Rain are simply heavenly and bring many of the emotions evoked to the surface with ultra-violent explosivity. It brings you, nakedly, face to face with the cast of characters souls. Kubrick does an unnaturally fantastic job of making you feel what they feel - each and every role - and I think it may have alot to do with the music, I do not know. You seem to either be able to relate to every character or, at the very least, understand where they are coming from. It is quite uncanny and almost surreal how he is able to do this. Perhaps he was just able to somehow get everybodys best performances for this project, but no actor is outdoing another at any time and every actor steals his own scene every time. A synopsis at this point is really unnecessary since, even though the screenplay is very, very, well-written, the true treasure in this production is the reality of everything attacking your senses all at once and for this reason, if you should decide to enter this world he created, you will likely experience something deep inside you. You will either hate it or love it but one thing is for certain, you will never forget it. Warning: If you end up watching it all the way through, you may very well have an urge to watch it again and again...or try hard to forget that you ever saw it at all. Very poweful. Not for children under 16 - even in this day and age.Read full review
I expected better from the sound and picture transfer to blu-ray. Not as well done as 2001 (see my other reviews), but not bad either. This is a disturbing look at human nature and society. Stanley Kubrick was a master at imagery. Extras Include: -Commentary by Malcolm McDowell and Film Historian Nick Redman -“Still Tickin’: The Return of A Clockwork Orange” -Great Bolshy Yarblockos: The Making of A Clockwork Orange" -“O Lucky Malcolm” -Theatrical Trailer Not a feel good movie. If you are not familiar with the movie itself, just google the title - there is volumes written about it. My review is on the quality of the blu-ray not the movie itself as there is already plenty written on it. If this type of review helps you please click the [YES] button below.
