It seems like the first season of GH had some of the more memorable moments for all the true fans out there. A few of the later releases were pretty bland and left you kind of feeling empty. I mean, after all, the better part of one season was spent cultivating the TAPS members' interpersonal relationships and whether or not Brian Harnois was staying or leaving the group. I, being a man, was really more interested in the actual ghost hunting aspects and figured that Jason or Grant could give a brief 2-3 minute explanation at the beginning of the episode as to where everyone has gone and how they are doing and then move on to the "meat and potatos" of the show. Back to this review of THIS particular DVD: It is great! A lot of ghosts caught on video (and EVP's on audio) and a good mixture of case-types from lighthouses to businesses to personal dwellings to ships. What a selection?!? I highly recommend this 3-disc collection for even a person who isn't a fan of the show but especially for those who are. Go gettem Jason & Grant!!! P.S. Can anyone reading this review that has some clout with the GH's or with Fox Network please tell them to cut out the background (eerie) music during the ghost hunts so that the TV viewing audience can actually hear in realtime what is being heard by the TAPS investigators?!?!?!? We don't need the dramatic license taken by the producers to take over and ruin the show!Read full review
At first you think this show may be just like any other. I learned about this show through word of mouth. I sat down to watch it one night and have been a full fledged fan of it ever since. Jason Hawes- Founder of T.A.P.S.(The Atlantic Paranormal Society) & Grant Wilson- Co-Founder of T.A.P.S. are two of the most down to earth people I've ever seen on TV. They do not set the goal for finding Paranormal Activity, they try to debunk it first, which in itself is truly unique. I have never watched a show where they investigate a place reported to have Paranormal Activity that tries to find normal everyday occurrences to solve the so called "haunting", but this show does just that. It is not all hyped up to prove a haunting for ratings but rather to disprove a haunting for the people who contact them. They are more focused on alleviating fears for thier clients with simple but thorough investigating rather than hyping it up and automatically saying it's haunted. As Jason Hawes has said numerous times 80% of hauntings can be disproved by simple everyday activities and thorough investigations. The whole T.A.P.S. team is very professional and down to earth. They are funny, serious, off color at times yet very professional in thier field. They take every investigation seriously and each member listens to the clients complaints on what has been happening and first focuses on finding a solution rather than finding a ghost. Now mind you not every show turns up evidence of Paranormal Activity and the reason being is because T.A.P.S. has found other reason for certain complaints. For example: In one episode a lady complained that every once in a while the "ghost" would double knock, on what felt like to her, the hardwood floor above the basement. When T.A.P.S. went to investigate they found that everytime the heating unit kicked on 2 boards that were leaning up against the air duct would bounce off of it and hit together twice. This is how it is with every show. 80% of the complaint in most cases can be solved by simple common sense and thorough investigations. I have also seen AMAZING footage of Paranormal Activity on this show as well. Jaw dropping at times. Thier professionalism, even when they find evidence, is top notch. They will go back to where they found the evidence and try 10 ways from Sunday to figure out why it occured and sometimes they find that another factor has caused the activity and sometimes they can't. This is the reason why I am forever faithful to T.A.P.S. and the Ghost Hunters show. REAL LIFE people searching for everyday occurrences to Paranormal complaints instead of ratings. GHOST HUNTERS IS ONE OF THE BEST PARANORMAL SHOWS ON TV!Read full review
A fun series to watch and it gets better as the seasons progress. The team that does the research is called TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society)not the Ghost Hunters. Don't expect to see something exciting every episode for their objective is to disprove hauntings; but at times can't and when they can't it's very interesting. They claim that 85% of their investigations reveal simple explanations and disproves any paranormal activity; however they encounter things they can't explain such as when one of the camera-crew was attacked and leveled (I won't give details and spoil it). This incident is in Season One and by chance was caught on camera by another member. I'm a skeptic when it comes to paranormal activity and I enjoy their approach of trying to debunk hauntings whereas other investigators are bent on proving paranormal activity and go to extremes to prove it (losing their credibility). If TAPS were attending a magic show they would be the ones in the crowd giving explanations of how the trick was done rather than being awed by it. They do believe and claim to have witnessed encounters with ghosts; but still take a more scientific approach to investigating hauntings. If you enjoy debates watch this show with your friends and it will open plenty of platforms for debate and discussions. EXCELLENT SHOW!Read full review
I have always been into documentaries, especially if they pertain to ghosts, the witch trials and famous hauntings. I have watched other TV programs that "check out" hauntings, but there is always a psychic that proves each and every haunting. This is not on the same level. Some of the hauntings are debunked by using common sense while recreating what was described in the haunting. Video cammeras are set up to catch physical manifestations, audio recorders for the auditory sounds. Other methods are utilized. Every episode that I have watched (I missed quite a few because of classes and preparing for school) had me leaning over to the edge of the couch, or whatever I was sitting on, in suspense about the clues they find to disprove or prove the hauntings. I am in favor of buying season collections on DVD's because you can watch the series at your leisure when you have time to really enjoy it. If you are interested in ghosts and researching hauntings, this series is one of the best.Read full review
I watch the ghosthunters (TAPS) faithfully and have all of the dvd's available. The only thing I can say is if you like the thrills and the awesome attitude that TAPS displays towards thier hunting.. you will love it! It isnt so much that they are trying to force the belief in ghosts on the world by making every little thing out to be a haunting... they honestly try to find answers. Called "debunking". Only when every possible reason is not possible...do they consider ghostly activity. Really Awesome!!
