I bought this book because I needed it for an On-line course, but if it gives you any idea how good the book is, I'm dropping the class now. The book is poorly written, and hard to understand, and just like any thompson book, the chapters are way too long. AT one point i noticed they tried to cram 3 or 4 things in one paragraph. I read chapter 1 twice, and read chapter 2, then I realized "i'm not retaining any of this!" The other thing that annoys me is how they always seem to praise intel in these books. While listing the minimum requirments for server 2003, they mentioned one version was for "64-bit processors such as the Intel Itanium". Do they realize that AMD invented the 64-bit processors? How about mentioning them too?
passed my course with a A. Dont know what that guy is talking about AMD did not invent the 64 bit cpu dont know what he was smoken. intel came out with the itanuim 2 years before amd came out with athlon and opteron 64 bit cpu`s .. but intel didnt come out with the first 64 bit cpu .. that one goes to IBM way back in the 60`s ...anyways i know this is supossed to be a book review ...just bugs me when people put out incorrect info ... great book
This book was required for a class I took. The class was at a community college with the goal of sitting for the exam when finished. I found the book to be well written, although it may have used too many words sometimes! It is suitable for a class like mine that is instructor led with many opportunities for lab experience. BOTTOM LINE: I took the MS exam and passed! Thanks Bob (my teacher) and Course Technology!
I thought that this was a very helpful book in learning how to control and troubleshoot using Windows Server 2003. The accompanying test prep CD is excellent as well as the Lab Manual which helps guide you through actual situations and setups. Highly recommended for studying for the 70-290 exam.
Very nice book and cd set. It will help me get a better inside look at Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and help me to better administer the servers I have in my shop. We never stop learning. Tools are always needed to make us better. This is a goo tool to start with.
