First of all, let me say that I am 45 and still remember all the words to all the Schoolhouse Rock versions from when I was a child. I couldn't wait, every Saturday morning, for Schoolhouse Rock. Times have changed to be sure, but it makes me sad that children these days know more about a video game controller than their times tables. They can remember what they have to do for all the different levels of certain games, but numbers or history or parts of the English language, they will struggle with. My friend's son is really struggling in Math, so I bought him Multiplication Rock. We are travelling to stay with them this weekend (his older sister is graduating High School) and he is so excited for me to bring it. We are going to make popcorn and all watch it together. He is very much into learning parts for plays, etc, so I really think that the songs will stick in his head and it will help him. I do agree with a previous review that some of the lessons go by so quickly, it can be hard to keep up. But, that's what the rewind button is for! The other bummer is that my friends had to get their old VCR out of the garage and hook it up. Schoolhouse Rock on DVD would be awesome! My daughter is 22. I bought her Schoolhouse Rock when she was little. My son has watched all of them.(He's 12). We watched it again after purchasing it on e-bay to make sure it was in working order before giving it away. We were both going around the house singing the songs after that. They get stuck in your head....and that's a good thing. Anything that can help a child remember something positive..... They are pretty catchy tunes. My son correctly guessed that my favorite is the number 8 because I love piano and string instruments. There is so much dialog that can be opened. Times may change, but numbers and the way they work are one thing that doesn't change. I obviously highly recommend Multiplication Rock!Read full review
I bought Schoolhouse Rock Multiplication because I have a 3rd grader working to learn his multiplication facts. Since math is not either of our favorite subject, it is a challenge to find "fun" way to learn! I remember the schoolhouse rock collection of animated songs that will forever be with me! He honestly loves the video and had learned the words. It reinforces some of the facts we have already learned and helps with the new ones. Beleive it or not, 30 yrs later it is still as powerful in minds of our youngsters as it was with us! Later, I purchased all of the others so that we could work on Grammer Rock, Science Rock, Money Rock, & America Rock. In my opinion, it is one of the best videos of have bought in years!
I purchased this for my son who is in third grade and was having trouble with his times tables. I remembered Multiplication Rock from my youth; "Three is a Magic Number" is still in my head! I was hoping he would enjoy it as much as I did and want to watch it over and over. Unfortunately, I don't think it translates well with this generation, who was raised on computer-generated graphics and rap/hip-hop/techno music. This is a little hokey to them. Also, as an adult watching these again for the first time in many many years, I found the words in most of the songs were sung too fast to be easily memorized. However, many of the songs explain the "tricks" of the patterns found in the times tables. This could be helpful to the child who may not have been taught that way in school. I did enjoy my trip down memory lane! The songs are catchy even if the lyrics are not that easy to pick up. I'm still hoping it will grow on my son, and not feel like "homework" when he watches it.Read full review
I fondly recalled all the School House Rock videos from my days as a youngster, and so when my 10 year old son showed signs of trouble with memorization of his multiplication tables, I hopped on ebay and knew I'd find the trusty "Multiplication Rock." If you have a child that is a highly visual and auditory learner like my son, a regular viewing of this video will go a long way toward cementing the times tables in their memory bank. Music has been a scientifically proven learning aid for decades, and the video is fun, colorful, and catchy!
My son is a visual learner and I knew from experience that these series of videos are very visual and entertaining. My son did enjoy the video and won't mind viewing it multiple times to learn his facts. I only wish that the facts were presented at a slower pace. In any event, it will assist his memory of the facts with singing rather than just rote memory learning. It would also be nice if this was in DVD format to assist going back to certain areas of the video repeatedly.
