This starter ratchet has not two, but FOUR screws that retain the ratchet and ball bearings. It works flawlessly on my 1970s Briggs and Stratton 5 horse. Very satisfied with the quality.

I just rebuilt the pull starter recoil, new recoil spring and all. I Figured I would get a new starter clutch for it, sometimes the old one wouldn't catch every time. This one fit on just fine and seemed to be functioning HOWEVER the ball bearings on the inside will randomly engage when they shouldn't while the engine is spinning. This happened when I has the pull start on the start clutch and wound it rapidly the wrong direction, this caused the rope to jam up and the whole pull starter locked up. When this happened the engine was still spinning and forced the starter clutch off the thread almost breaking everything I just restored on my starter. The whole assembly is machined quite poorly

Proof of the pudding is mower starts again. Previous starter clutch was missing 2 ball bearings. This one arrived as shown in the item photo. Old one was easy to remove. New one went on easy. Arrived 2 days early.

If installed properly, it works very well. Prepping the engine shaft prior to installation is imperative. Seems like a good part.
