This is a typical chick flick. This does not make it automatically suspect in my eyes, cuz I'm a chick. The characters are likable, James Marsden is very charming, and it ends happily (which is a must for me, since in real life, like the one I'm living, this rarely happens). There was good character development for Jane, the main female lead, but not for Kevin, the lead male. Great supporting actors (I love Judy Greer and Ed Burns) and good chemistry between the two leads. It was a throwback to the old loving/fighting classic love stories-oldies but goodies, by the way. Katharine Heigl is good in this movie, but for me, James Marsden stole the show. He did the same in Enchanted. Bravo, now he stands beside Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth for my leading men loves! All in all, good chick flick.Read full review
I just bought this movie last week and it did NOT dissappoint!! I hate when a movie is all hyped up, like this one, and then does not deliver...not the case here! Heigl did a fantastic job as a likeable leading lady that had great chemistry with James Marsten (Doyle). I feel that a romantic comedy is not great if the 2 people don't have that "it" factor - Chemistry, and these 2 have it. Not only did this movie have a lot more going on than the typical girl meets boy, girl hates boy, etc... story, it was great to laugh at and feel for the main character at the same time, because, let's face it ladies, we have all been there, well, maybe not exactly in her prediciments, but we can relate!! And that is the mark of a great chick flick and romantic comedy - WE CAN RELATE!! So, rent it, buy it, borrow it, but please see it, I loved it and so will you. Thanks for reading my review and please make sure to comment on if this review was helpful or not - Thanks so much and have a great evening! Sincerely, ErikaRead full review
Although this movie is a bit typical, it's still a breezy, light hearted romp, which is all it appears to be trying to do. It's got formulaic construction familiar in romantic comedies, yet it knows it's just harmless fluff and doesn't try to be anything more. Kathryn Heigl is certainly the strength of the film, with an exuberant approach to her "hopeless romantic" always the bridesmaid character who longs for that special day of her own. The performance is playful and silly when needed, and sweetly honest in the more serious moments. The rest of the cast are all good, too; the personality collisions of various characters are usually well done. The sight gags involving the dresses are clever, and the story runs its course effectively. There are weaknesses, such as the ugly, mean spirited, and out-of-place slide show sequence. The script could have accomplished the point which is made there in some better way. Light popcorn fun. Like fast food, it probably won't stick with you for long, but it's good for some entertaining silliness. One thing I'm still wondering: how much would scuba-gear set back the wedding party members?Read full review
I loved the movie! Did I said I loved the movie, because I really loved it!!! It's really a great movie, the main actor is Issy (not sure if spelled correct) from Gray's. It's one of those "feel good" movies. I would let anyone over the age of 10yr watch it. The only reason I wouldn't let someone younger watch it is because I think they would be bord (it's not a cartoons). I plan on watching it many more times, like I said before, "it's a feel good movie". After watching I couldn't help but smile, it made me smile all day. Like most ladies I can relate, just last night I pulled a brides maid dress out and said that line every bride tells you "you can make it shorter to wear again", that line was used many times in the movie. If you haven't seen it you really need too.
A cute movie that had a happy ending. I'm glad that our main character developed some "backbone" in the end. Her times of truth at the pre-wedding dinner were pretty hurtful, but when you consider her insensitive boss, sister and even her father...it's about the same as cleaning out a nasty wound so that it will eventually heal. There are probably too many folks like her in real life that have their kindness taken for weakness and become doormats for selfish friends and family. It gave me hope when she started learning how to say no.
