After the failure of another name-branded M.2 SSD to work in my Chromebook, I bought a Transcend of the same capacity (256 GB). I am still awaiting an RMA from that other manufacturer, so as a consequence I will not be buying additional units from them. The TRANSCEND M.2 units have worked in which every Chromebook or Chromebox I have installed them.

My measurement show the sequential read speed on this device as 'north' of 500mb/second. On an IIntel® I7 based Windows 8.1 laptop machine it goes from pushing the on button, to login message in under 20 seconds! This is about the least expensive way to dramatically increase the performance of a laptop with a 42mm M.2 slot available. Since it occupies the m.2 slot, rather than an HDD SATA port, you can keep your HDD to store files that don't need the supersonic performance of an SSD (like streaming/streamed movies) and WP documents. The is downloadable software to allow you to clone your existing boot device (even if it is a different size) onto the SSD to make the SSD you boot device.

There appeared to be some issue with Transcend SSD in Chromebooks running Crouton which required a workaround involving some settings for SATA power management in the ChromeOS. However there is no such issue now that my Chromebook is running both Windows 10 and GalliumOS, or Ubuntu. Highly recommended.

Wasn't expecting great things from this little SSD but really impressed. Beelink M1 booted straight from it after cloning and hasn't missed a beat since. Read/write speeds (CrystalDiskMark_6.0) of 542.6 and 492.4 Mb/s respectively :).
