The quality of this pen is excellent for the price. It is nicely built and has a good feel to it; in other words, it doesn't feel cheap. The materials are decent. The body is very clear and the chrome details are well finished. There is no play between the pieces except for the turning knob, which moves around quite a bit when pushed in. This, however, can be solved by pushing in the knob from a position where it doesn't exactly fit in the "slots" at the end of the pen, so that the friction keeps the knob from moving. The piston filling mechanism works nicely. The nib is also great; in my opinion, it writes better out of the box than many other pens of higher cost (Faber-Castell Loom comes to mind). And last but not least, I think the looks of this pen are stunning. The feed is translucent, so you can see the ink running through the section down to the nib. The ink sloshing around the barrel is also distractingly beautiful. Another nice detail (which many won't like) is the smoked piece of plastic which covers the nib inside the cap. Although it breaks the "fully demonstrator" look of the pen, it keeps the shine of the nib from interfering with the balanced design of the pen, where touches of chrome have been placed at the right places to add a just amount of elegance.Read full review

This is somewhat similar to a Pilot Custom Heritage 92, in that it is a piston-filled clear demonstrator. It is a bit longer, and only a wee bit lesser quality construction, but it's not what I usually think of when I hear "cheap Chinese pen." In fact, it's among the pricier of the Chinese pens available on eBay. However, at $21, it's still a much more affordable pen than the aforementioned Pilot, which has a 14k nib and runs well over $100. I was expecting the EF nib to be somewhat scratchy, because most EF nibs have a bit of scratchiness. However, this nib was a pleasant surprise-quite smooth, with good flow. The piston worked well, and I was able to press the knob up into the pen to secure it and stop the rattling of the knob. I don't think the Pilot even has that feature. The Wing Sung even included a tiny tube of silicone grease to keep the piston sealed properly. Since I can get a handful of these for the same price as a Pilot, and the nib is such a good writer, I'm giving this five stars, and have already ordered more.Read full review

The 698 is the pen that pilot should be making and selling at $25-30. It's an impressively well made little pen, with great fit and finish, the EF nib rivals pilot's. The blind cap is well made (it does wobble a TINY bit when you deliberately wiggle it, but it's not really loose, just feels like it was deliberately made that way) and is one of the three iny things I'd change about this pen, the other being the clip is just too tight and that I wish they'd revise the design slightly to accommodate the cap posting on the body. Even unposted, the pen fits the hand very nicely. The grip section is a nice shape and is comfortable to hold. The piston holds a lot of ink and the demonstrator is awesome looking. I was unsure about the white/clear, but it actually shows off colors really well because of the white/ink contrast. The biggest party piece is that this is 100% perfectly interchangeable with pilot nibs. Pick up a plumix stub and you now have a 698 stub. Pick up a metro or kakuno or 78g or prera with an F or M nib, and you have one of those. The EF is nice and medium-flowing, great for everyday use where you need ink to dry quickly and not bleed/feather. Smooth and not scratchy at all. Quality of the plastic is excellent and the pen has no drying out issues whatsoever. Some may say this pen is a "ripoff" of the TWSBI eco, I strongly disagree. This is much better than the TWSBI, both in style and substance. This pen needs a few tiny tweaks to be literally perfect, but it's easily one of the most fantastic deals out there, and this is the very first chinese made fountain pen that I would 100% recommend to someone as a first fountain pen. Well done Wing Sung. Chinese pens got astoundingly better when they started using old pilot tooling to stamp out pilot's legendary steel nibs, and they're doing pilot steel nibs real justice.
