The original hi tech Space fiction classic. A 1968 release, Kubrick envisioned accurately the future of space travel and portrayed it with astonishing special effects. The use of symphonic music enhances the space experience, as the Blue Danube accompanies the synchronized docking maneuvers of the transport to the space station and subsequent trip to the Moon. Scenic effects on the moon realistically depict the stark landscapes under a jet black daytime sky. Nevermind the special effects when the sole survivor of HAL's presumed mutiny begins his light speed relativistic journey into an unknown destination. It's a must see. So glad to find this classic to add to the scifi collection

Stanley Kubrick's daring mostly-visual storytelling style & Arthur C. Clarke's vivid imagination have combined to make an awe-inspiring fil that stretches the viewer's imagination Awe-inspiring concepts are 'old hat' to Clarke, who worked on the beginnings of WWII RADAR that helped defeat German bomber fleets in The Battle of Britain. He also invented the idea of the Geosynchronous Communications Satellite, parked at exactly the right altitude so that it circles the Earth at the same rate the Earth turns on its axis

I have never seen this movie. After learning of its cultural significance, and my love of older sci-fi, I decided to give it a shot. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to watch it again. The quality of this specific release, two-disc special edition, was incredible considering the age of the film! If you have never seen this movie, and love sci-fi, buy this edition! I am sure you will love it as much as I did.

I have had the worst luck with cheap editions that write on both sides of the disc, or compress too much on one side. This is the first edition of the remaster: sound and picture are superior, and the aspect ratio is closer to the original. It is worth an extra dollar or two for getting the next best thing to the theatre experience.

I saw this movie when it was first shown in the local theater in 1968. Stanley Kubrick brought out the best in Arthur C. Clarke when they worked together to make this movie. When it was released it so far advanced technologically that many people hated the movie. However true Sci-Fi fans loved it. The way Clarke brought space to life in this movie was years ahead of it's time. You have to remember that in 1968 only a hand full of humans had ever even been in space, let alone established colonies or built ships large enough for anyone to live in. 2001 is one of the best space movies ever made and I highly recommend all Sci-Fi fans to add this one to their collection.
