In the fall of 1948, when I was a seven-year-old in Louisville, Kentucky, my favorite thing was cars and a lot of folks thought that when I grew up I would be a mechanic. I took passion in drawing cars, especially Chevrolets. and their grills. I could definitely tell the difference when the new models came out. For instance, the 1947s and '48s were almost identical but the '48 had a bar down the middle of the grill and one had little chrome things under the tail lights. In '49, everything changed. Because my mother was having some health issues, in 1947 I spent two months with my grandparents in Georgia. Our car at that time was a 1941 Chevrolet and it didn't even have a radio. So, I carefully crafted an order form because I was told that my dad was thinking about trading in that clunker during the summer. I told him I wanted a Chevrolet Fleetline and it absolutely had to have a radio. In those days, radios and heaters were options and NOBODY had air conditioning in their car. One day, a letter came from my mom with glorious news - dad had used my order form and purchased a brand new dark green 1947 Chevrolet Fleetline complete with a radio! Two weeks later, they drove down to pick me up and take me back to Kentucky. The following year, dad traded again - this time for a 1948 just like the model I bought. Fender skirts and all and this one had whitewall tires. My best friend and I played in that car for days at a time just to smell its newness. When I saw this car on eBay, suddenly I had to have it. My goal is to find models of the family cars we had and - in particular - my granddad's treasured 1934 Ford coupe, complete with a rumble seat and an outside spare tire. Oh, for the good ole days of childhood. Mike (msdart440) p.s. - In 1953, my love of cars waned and I turned to baseball and eventually became a sportswriter.Read full review

The Signature Models 1948 Chevrolet Aerosedan Fleetline 1/32 DieCast model car is an outstanding value, with exceptional detailing for this popular scale. Although my collection is primarily 1950 to 1960 to fill the streets and driveways of my annual Department 56 Snow Village display, this late 40's car is a worthy addition. The two-tone paint and the detailing of the chrome trim on the full sized vehicle make it a standout for any collection, at a very reasonable price.
