The 1921-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar is the lowest mintage coin of the entire series with a total mintage of only 208,000 coins. This coin is surprisingly available, but mostly in very low grade conditions. Many collectors view lower grade coins (Fair/AG - Good-6) as little more than "filler" coins, and their retail values are supportive of this assumption. There are significantly fewer Half Dollar collectors than Cent or Nickel 5c pieces. If this coin was a .01c or .05c coin, with this extremely low mintage, I feel that its value would be much higher because of the probable higher interest. The truth about this coin is that in grades of FINE or better, this coin becomes VERY RELEVANT! Remember, this low-mintage piece survived the Great Depression of the 1930's, followed by WWII, before hardly anyone started collecting them. By that time, these coins had circulated for 25 years and most were all but worn out. That is why this coin sells for such high premiums in those grades of FINE through Uncirculated conditions. The Walking Liberty series (1916 - 1947) boasts of nine individual dates/mints with total mintages of fewer than one million coins, making this a stellar series to attempt. This series can be completed in basic GOOD condition for as little as $1500, but depending upon your personal finances, you could spend Half a Million Dollars in ultimately highest conditions. I feel that this coin is one of the most significant of this series and worth acquiring in as high a grade as your budget will allow. - mintex03Read full review

This is a coin in which most dates have ben worn almost flat This was not corrected by the mint for some tears. The coin is an excellent strike and a true MS63.

Ultra rare in any grade with a montage of only 208,000 coins. If you are trying to put together a WL half collection you have to have this coin. I would recommend one in VF or XF condition that can be found for $200 to $300. When they grade goes up the price could be in the thousands. It is truly the most beautiful coin ever minted by the United States.

That was the last Walking Liberty I needed to complete my collection! Now, I can casually purchase better grade coins to upgrade certain pieces.
