The amazon software is not good - and you cannot even access goggle play or gmail. After a workaround it is running android. There are a lot of quirks with this phone, but as a phone it has very strong reception (even in area where other top line phones struggle) and the GPS signal is also strong. It is a battery hog, and you can't change the battery yourself, so will need to see how that plays out.

Bought for $50 plus $99 for the included year of Amazon Prime. The interface has some good ideas and some that I don't like. The app selection is limited. There are typically apps for the functions that I want, but often the app that I'm used to is not available. Some of the apps don't follow the "standard" for the interface. I also wanted to be able to swap SIM cards. That part didn't work. I think that Cricket has looked the phone. Will be exploring the SIM issue. Also, am planning to test whether the Android environment app will allow me to run my favorite apps.. On the whole I'd buy it again. Especially because it replaced a very old phone.

This phone is a great value for people who are invested in the Amazon ecosystem content. You can easily use it with your FireTV, or on the go to pull up your content. Connect with PRIME to save movies to the device to listen to later, or stream music. The camera is descent, a lil slow, but pretty okay for a device at this price point, and all of your photos can be connected to your Amazon Photos Drive, which gives you unlimited storage when taking pictures from this device. Overall i love the form factor. Downside is that Amazon's App store isnt' as developed as Apple's or Google's. I use 1Mobile Market for the most part to get the Apps that aren't on Amazon. But even still, the 2nd issue is that Amazon doesn't update their OS or their apps. Belini has been out for months, and it simply isn't coming to the old devices, because it's used to pitch Amazon's newer devices. Not that this matters too much, because Belini has it's own problems. If you really hate the Amazon look, you can opt for a 3rd party launcher.Read full review

To be quite honest, I purchased this "phone" to be used only as a means of listening to books thru the text to speech option while I was working out at the gym or walking. It is much more portable, and since the Kindle app for Android doesn't have that TTS option, this was the next best thing for my purpose, and it definitely works well for that! Would I use it as a phone? No. Extremely poor battery life. I use a battery case to extend battery life. But it really doesn't have a friendly user interface at all! I can see why it didn't go over very well as an actual phone, but I do love it for the use that I purchased it for! So if that's your intention, go for it!
