Fred Zinneman, John Sturges, Nicholas Ray, Anthony Mann were especially great directors of film-noir, although they all were prolific in all genres, as good directors were. The camera work was outstanding throughout, with the black & white shadows, the criminals, the femme fatales, tension and stories meant to express the fatalism of the Post-war times. Actors such as Edward G. Robinson, Robert Mitchum, Sterling Hayden, Farley Granger, Jane Greer, & Richard Basehart created characters in these films that still seem relevant today. My favorite films of these selection are "The Big Steal" & "Where Danger Lives" both with the brooding Robert Mitchum, and "Side Street" with Farley Granger. "Side Street" cinematographer Joseph Ruttenberg was especially superb with the camera angles and lighting. Read full review
