This is the fourth in a series by Katie MacAlister, and I've really enjoyed every one of them. "Even Vampires Get The Blues" wasn't my favorite, but it was a great read. It has the same quirky humor and inviting characters that all of Mrs. MacAlisters' books have. It's written in the 1st person, which normally I don't care for, but I know if it's a KM book I'll love it. Here, I didn't really grow to love the hero or heroine as much as I did in the other three in the series, which is why it's not my favorite, but it was definitely worth buying and keeping to re-read later. Paen is a Moravian Dark One without a soul, who must find a lost relic to save his mothers' soul from going to a demon, and Sam is a half-elf private detective who should be good at finding lost items, but things don't always go as they should. If you're looking for a great vampire love story, look no farther than Katie MacAlisters' series, but I recommend getting the other three and reading also. This last one is the most disconnected from the story line in the series so it's the easiest to jump into out of order, but I like to read series in order, and the others do follow a pattern and also set up the background of the Moravian Dark Ones much better than this one. The other three are: "A Girls' Guide to Vampires" "Sex and the Single Vampire" and "Sex, Lies and Vampires"Read full review
this is the 4th book in the series and definately better than the last one. It also has none of the previous characters from previous books in it. paen Scott is a dark one: a vampire without a soul and his mother is about to lose hers too if paen cant' repay a debt to a demon by finding a relic known as the jilin god in 5 days. along the way he meets half elf samantha cosse and falls in love.
I have never read one of Katie MacAlister's vampire romances before. I was delighted to find the same sense of humor and well-developed characters that are standard fare in her contemporary and Aisling Grey novels. This is one of those rare romances that keeps you so engrossed in the story that you go from laughing at the funny parts to fighting tears at the sad parts. Truly memorable and a definite keeper. My only complaint: the prologue is written in the 3rd person, the rest of the story in the 1st person. It was a bit distracting at the beginning as a result.
As always Katie Macalister delivers a zany yet heartwrenching vampire romance. Her characters are well written and enable the reader to dive into her world. Vampires, imps, ghosts,Diviners,Demons and more keep the action going but above all else the romance warms your heart and keeps your interest. Even if you've never read a book in this series you won't be lost...but you will be cheering for Paen(a Morovian Dark One) and Sam(a Half-Elf) to spend eternity together.
As always she is truely a fun read. Her characters are so real and make you laugh out loud. Gotta luv her work.
