This seems to be the equivalent of much more expensive ones. It comes with a clamp that is a separate item for some of the other ones I saw. I don't have the more expensive ones to compare to but I am not sure how they would be better unless they were a little stronger. This is a little weak for a camera with a heavy lens but for holding a flash or a smaller camera its works very well. It didn't come with instructions and I didn't figure out how it was supposed to work right away. Now it seems obvious. maneuver the thing around until you have it in the position you want and tighten the knob. That locks all the joints. Very nice.

The item arrived quickly and it does work. However the quality of manufacture and assembly certainly leaves something to be desired. Each articulated section moves within the ball-joint, but it feels "grindy" and not at all smooth. In the ball-joint there is a metal retainer that functions to ensure the ball does not pop out. In several joints, the retainer had slid over to cover the small opening that allows the ball-joint to be adjusted to 90 degrees. I carefully pushed it back over using a screwdriver. But if I had not seen this and forced the ball down, the unit would likely have been damaged and rendered unusable. What always amazes me is how companies will go to the trouble of using a lot of good raw material and labour, but then because of lack of attention to some small detail, or an unwillingness to spend $0.25 on better materials or processes, they produce something that's substandard. It didn't need to be and with the slightest effort it could have been great. But it isn't. This is one of those products. If it lasts through 2 years of use, I'll be surprised. Companies should take better care of resources on this planet and produce things that last. For the price I paid $14.77 USD including shipping, perhaps I needn't complain. Next time, I'd prefer to spent $10 more and buy something 3x as good. Read full review

This Magic Arm is very nice for the price, just as strong as other brands such as ProMaster, but at like ¼ of the price! The clamp on it is also very good. Using them with my Tascam recorders, when doing LIVE recording. Recommended!
