The drive is a fast and a easy upgrade for the Dell Latitude D430 computer. This laptop requires a 1.8" ZIF style drive(also known as Parallel ATA) This drive has a fast 5400 spin speed and 8mb. The 60 gig factory drive was only a 4200rpm with 2mb, a jump in speed and size. The only faster option is a Solid State Drive or "SSD" a costly option. Installing was easy, remove the battery and the hard drive bracket. The hard drive is in-cased with a rubber sleeve.Be careful with the ZIF connector, break it and the drive is shot. You use your fingernail or the special tool to lift the locking lever to release the cable and it is easy to install the cable in the new drive and use the locking lever to hold it in place. The only problem is warranty on the drive.I bought two of them and they are not covered unless they were bought from a actual seller. Both drives I bought are only covered from the Manufacture of the unit.Samsung has a online warranty checker that can verify the warranty status of the drive with the serial number.Read full review
I bought this drive because I have other samsung products that are very dependable and a good product so I thought I would try a hard drive for a laptop I was working on. Transfer rate of drive is quite fast for a laptop. I use other brand names of drives and this one performs as well as the others.
One of the many sellers (http://myworld.ebay.com/care-mart) on eBay who carries this HDD from time to time, should be avoided. Price may be good but beware of a major caveat. Should the HDD prematurely fail, expect no warranty support or after sales care. Purchased HDD in March 2010, HDD failed to boot after 6 months of usage. Exhausted all options to contact seller and eBay to resolve premature HDD failure to no avail. Unable to obtain manufacturer warranty either as seller is not willing to support proof of purchase nor any form of sales support.
I bought this product because the hard disk in my HP MINI 700 crashed, and I thought I tried replacing it with a better one. First of all the actual size of this hard disk is too big, thus creating a bulge at the surface of the keyboard, though in many sites people actually recommend it for this netbook. But thats not the worst thing about it. Soon after I installed it I heard a clicking sound, which just doesn't stop. I read that most often this is a sign of damaged hard disk heads.... The operating system friezes every few minutes. I would like its replacement as soon as possible.
This hard drive was just what I needed to bring an old Dell notebook computer I got for free back to life, and I have a "new" laptop for trips and such.
