  • Excellent and fun project - great working example of Tesla!

Excellent electronic kit and mini Tesla coil! Take your time with soldering and ensure you have solder flow through the component holes (bottom of board to top) as the an incomplete solder effort on the bottom of the printed circuit board may not promote continuity. Consider an external fan as well as the heat sinks get very hot to the touch. You will also need a separate power supply. Overall, an exciting and interesting kit....even captured the attention of my ever distracted son!

  • Great kit... but no instructions!

It's a very nice kit at a fantastic price, but I kinda had to knock a star off because there are no instructions of any kind included. This wouldn't normally be a problem with a properly screen-printed PC board like the one included, but I had to search online for build videos to figure out exactly how to attach the primary and secondary coils.

  • Great little project for anyone fascinated by Tesla Coils and just cool to watch in operation.

Super fun project for anyone fascinated by Tesla Coils These little kits are Fun! I have read some reviews where builders did not get their coils to work. Take your time, pay attention to the polarity of condensors, direction of winding of the primary coil and note that the two transistors are Not the same. Numbers are small and hard to read, use magnification to see them! Mine worked first try. However, most sellers do Not provide any Thermal Paste (some do). Mine did not come with any, so I figured it may not be a necessity. Wrong! If yours does not come with Thermal Paste, order some elsewhere and use it. I ran mine only a minute or so at a time, but still managed to let the Mosfet power transistor overheat and Magic Smoke appeared! I ordered another kit from a different seller to see if Thermal Paste would be included. Still Not, so I ordered some and waited. Used this and the new one is great. I still do not take chances and will only operate my coil for about a minute or so and I let it cool. It may very well be able to run much longer but I am not willing to test to see. Musical??? I plugged an audio cable (3.5mm male on both ends of cable) into my desktop speaker headphone jack, turned on Buddy Holly and I could hear the music produced by the plasma discharge! Very low volume due to the small size of this coil, but clear and Super Cool! I then tried a tune of my own that I recorded some years ago. Nothing! I guess it does not like Native American Flute music! I let the unit cool, went back to Buddy Holly. Nothing! I am at a loss as to what is wrong. Really No idea, but this thing makes me want to build a bigger unit, or buy a finished coil for music. I am overall very pleased and considering when I rebuild my "play" funds, I might build another or two! I plan to upload a video to youtube of mine running with a "spinner" on the top-load. Look on youtube for Dan Whitepath. This is the Second one I bought, the first was from a different seller. Both sellers are Great. Neither supplies Thermal Grease (some do, it seems Most don't) Get some if you build one of these.

  • Fun kit but needs instructions!

I have a good tech background so it was pretty easy to assemble. Make sure to solder in all the resistors in the heat sink area before mounting the heat sink! Also mount the transistors ( or fet’s?) with heatsink paste if you have some and make sure the mounting screws are tight. The cons It really needs a link to a assembly diagram. Adding the resistor color code in the info would be a big help to many as well. If you have a ohm meter just measure them, it’s faster! The holes for the led’s have a + and - and the silk screen label doesn’t show the flat side that is the - cathode. So insert the led’s with the flat side ( cathode) into the - hole. I used hot glue to mount the coil and that went well. Mount the coil with the arrow up and remove the arrow sticker and raise that wire to the top. It’s the spark wire and don’t cut it. Just tuck in in the top of the coil to shorten it. The bottom coil wire insulation will melt when you solder it to the pad. The red single turn wire has to be wound clock wise from the right solder pad and cc wise from the left solder pad. If you wind the red wire the wrong way the second led will not light and no spark. Just reverse the one turn winding. It really needs 20-24v dc to work well. I used a boost regulator to convert 12v to 24v. You should have some kind of a 20-24v power supply available. The pros. Works (small spark) well and does play music as advertised!

  • The kit has no real directions

The led works after i got done assembling it but not sure how to get it to work looks like its missing a part good practice for soldering though and it was cheap!

  • Fun high voltage project

Fun project. Be careful with the high voltage. The assembly instructions could be better. There are examples on the internet to help if you have questions. I did not connect the coil to any music device. Do that at your own risk... I demo with neon bulbs. Lots of fun.

  • works good

great product especially for the price. takes a bit of figuring out to assemble but it shouldn't be an issue for anyone who does soldering. super glue works to keep the coil upright rather well. overall if I needed another I'd buy another, but I don't need another
