Own a Piece of History: Chevrolet Chevelle

While the Chevrolet Chevelle has not been manufactured for decades, it is still a popular classic car to auto enthusiasts and muscle car drivers. First introduced in 1963, the Chevelle would go through several different body, motor, and aesthetic changes before finally having its last run on the assembly line in 1977.

Owning a Chevelle means you get to own a little piece of history, have a lovely conversation piece to take to a car show, or have an incredible car that you still take out to drive on the weekends. Browse eBays offerings of used, certified pre-owned, and rare new Chevelle models, and bring home some of that history for yourself.

What Model Years of the Chevy Chevelle Are Available?

Even though it had a relatively short run, the Chevelle was one of the most successful nameplates produced by Chevrolet. In fact, it rivals the Monte Carlo in terms of popularity. Also known as the Chevrolet Malibu, each model year of this classic car was slightly different and unique. These are divided into three generations: the first, second, and third generation.

  • First generation, 1964-1967: This lineup mainly consists of the earliest Chevrolet models. These were manufactured to be slightly smaller than size (in both body and engine) when compared to popular Chevy models of the 1950s, such as the Fairlane.
  • Second generation, 1968-1972: Building on the later years and models of the first generation, such as the Chevelle SS, these cars were more sleek and more sculptured, and were true muscle cars. There were, however, definitive design changes, such as the sporty SS 396 Chevelle, which sported a 350 horsepower Turbo-Jet 396 V8 engine, making it a true street-legal race car.
  • Third generation, 1973-1977. There were several distinct design changes during this time period, namely with the hard top Chevrolet Chevelles being redesigned to be more safe in the event of a roll over crash. El Camino models also became part of the lineup (these were half-auto, half-pickup truck).
Buying a Classic Vehicle

These vehicles are exciting, fun to drive, and make a great hobby for the enthusiast with time. Just like everything worth having, there are some things to keep in mind as you search for a Chevelle to call your own:

  • Check paperwork. Classic cars sometimes have different title requirements. Do your research, and also make sure the title is legal, before final purchase.
  • Check parts availability. One of the best reasons a Chevelle is a good choice is availability of parts, including new old stock (NOS) parts. This means that when your vehicle needs a repair, it wont be as costly (or take as much time and effort).
