Cannot Recommend...
3 of 4 found this helpful I own a video production business and needed a way to record large video files in the field, then capture to my computer and be able to burn DVD's quickly. This recorder misses the mark in several ways.
First, the user interface is cryptic at best. The manual is little help in this regard. The remote is poorly laid out with confusing labels beneath very tiny buttons.
When you are in HDD mode, you should be able to simply hit "RECORD" and go. But the unit makes you verify that you did indeed wish to record to the HDD and not directly to a DVD even when there is no disk in the drive.
On playback from the HDD, the on-screen display lingers for nearly half a minute, blocking the lower 20% of the picture from view. There is no way to turn this function off.
Perhaps the worst problem is that when you copy a video file from HDD to DVD, there is no clear indication when the clumsy process is finished. The discs will play back on the Polaroid fine...but no other player or computer drive. I tried DVD+R, DVD-R, different brands, various settings, no use. That is a fatal flaw.
The only glimmer in this gloomy scenario is that the picture quality is quite acceptable and there are plenty of options for connecting inputs and outputs. I will continue to use the unit strictly as a stand-alone HDD recorder and DVD player because quite frankly it would be too much trouble to return it, but I cannot recommend that anyone else purchase one.

Solid performance.
As the owner of a still going strong 2012 MacBookPro that I use for video editing, I needed a storage solution that could handle both Thunderbolt 2 and 3 connections and this little jewel has the capacity and connections. I've had a 500G Lacie that's been solid for years. The rugged orange cover is easy to grip, stays where you sit it down and tough. Just what video in the field calls for.

Alternative to the EV model
Still a tad pricey, but at least it's not a hundred bucks! Build quality at least as robust as the 309A if not better. The EV model used brass in the mount screw which would wear poorly. The bands are close enough to use the aftermarket ones from Better Bands. So far working, but will see how it fares long term.
