Not really given a chance
This is another typical example of Microsoft coming out too late with a really good product (other examples: Zune and now Groove music) but never using good marketing (e.g. strongly discounted prices) and/or giving it enough time to really get established. This product has a few shortcomings (e.g. relatively short battery life), but is basically fully able to hold its own against the competition. But now it's just history. (Which meant that I got it for a great price!)
