Very quick to use and works well on some basses
Far better looking and easier to use than the traditional piece of foam. Unfortunately it's not as versatile as a piece of foam. The efficacy of The Muffler is totally dependent on the height of the bridge which not only varies from brand to brand, but also from instrument to instrument. I own 50+ basses of all kinds and tried The Muffler on most of them. Here are my findings:
- Semis like Hofners won't work because the bridges are too high
- Some basses with a pickup very close to the bridge don't allow enough space for The Muffler while I can usually cram in a piece of ordinary foam.
- Works on about 50% of my Fender - style instruments. On some, the bridge is too low and the damping effect is far too great. I'm not going to shim the neck just to allow this to work.
- some instruments with fender-style hi-mass bridges with side-cheeks or thick baseplates, they may not allow you to get The Muffler close enough to the bridge.
On my basses where it does work, The Muffler is very useful in a live situation where I only want to mute for one or two songs. For recording I'll stick to a hunk of unattractive foam.

Good, effective unit but why flat black knobs?
This is the second one of these I've installed. The unit is sufficiently small it will fit almost anywhere. The circuit is very quiet and the choice of frequencies is very musical (in both positions of the treble switch). My one quibble (and the only reason I've dinged it one star) is the choice of knobs it comes with. I know I'm an old traditionalist but I'd like to bet a very few guitars come fitted with flat black control knobs. The additional expense of getting some chrome knobs to match all the other knobs hurts but c'est la vie.

Nice concept but barely usable
1 of 1 found this helpful Clever little box, well-constructed. Only one problem - the transposed pitches are out of tune by quite a bit. Less noticable on the tune down options but the tune-up options are all unusable. I expected the synthetic tinny timbre of the transposed note but never expected the pitch issues. Harmony mode where the new note is blended with the original is unmusical and hence unsuseable, particularly since the blend of two notes is not adjustable. For single-note use it's bad, for multiple notes, it's ghastly.
The de-tune option (a throbby kind of chorus) does work and I'll probably use the pedal for this only.
I tried this with guitar and bass and had equal issues with both. I bought this primarily for the octave-up option so this is not going to find a space on my board. Instead I bought the Mooer Tender Octaver Mk II. That does what I need quite well but still needs to be used with caution since the synthesized note is still very tinny.
