crappy screws
Works exactly as expected, but one of the two mounting screws broke in half as I was tightening it, I barely applied any pressure at all. It's obviously made of very cheap material, disappointing.

Bad intake, do not buy until K&N redesigns it
3 of 8 found this helpful Where to start? As opposed to the advertised "power gain", there's actually a power loss. Since the car actually felt more sluggish after installing this intake, I put it on a dyno. 11hp loss over stock.
This is, for all practical purposes, a HOT air intake. The head shield is totally useless in shielding the filter from the heat of the engine compartment, and serves only as a support bracket for the metal pipe.
Second, the metal pipe has no air flow fins to straighten the airflow into laminar flow, like high-quality aftermarket SRIs from CorkSport or JBR, which all include airflow straighteners for the MAF to read properly (and proper cold air boxes to draw in cold air just like the factory system). This undoubtedly also contributes to power loss by false MAF readings.
Third, the crankcase vent hose supplied is a cheap and undersized hose that barely fits over the crankcase fitting on the engine side, and the plastic 90-degree fitting supplied for the intake side is also a joke and easy to break. Again, unlike the higher-quality aftermarket SRIs that all use a plug-and-play interface to the original Mazda tube.
So if you want an intake that makes your engine sound better while reducing the power at the same time, this one's for you!

Nice item, decent quality
For the price, this thing isn't meant to last forever. But it looks nice, and will be worth it if it lasts 6 months.
