HO scale Athearn Genesis SSW Cotton Belt lighted caboose #78 G63024

A Finely Detailed Caboose.

This Athearn Genesis caboose is very finely detailed, almost the equal of brass, with numerous applied parts, such as grab irons, under-car brake piping, ,etc. Axles feature rotating roller bearing end caps. Painting is crisp, and all lettering, although tiny, is completely legible. Interior is fully detailed. Model includes optional window screens. DCC-controlled interior lights and rooftop marker lights are both directional, and easily programmed using Decoder Pro's Soundtraxx Lighting Decoder file. (I set my markers to blink at a 2-second interval, for added visual interest.) A stay-alive capacitor eliminates any lighting flicker from intermittent contact. All in all, this superb caboose will add visual appeal to the end of any SSW Cotton Belt consist.

Best mirror replacement solution.

The replacement mirror was a perfect factory fit, out of the box. One caution, however. The double-stick pads provided proved inadequate to retain the replacement mirror to its backing plate. The first mirror, installed using these pads, fell off in traffic, after a few days. I ordered a second mirror and used a generous amount of LIQUID NAILS adhesive to attach it the 2nd time, which worked like a charm. Even though I had to buy 2 mirrors, in the end it was still cheaper than any other available solution.
