Nice addition to my locomotive roster

Runs great on my test track. Negotiates 9.75 curves easily. The sound is on par with HO scale locomotives, does not sound 'tinny' compared to usual N scale loco sound. This is my second pair of BLI ALCOs. Waiting for their F3s to come out in Summer 2018. If they sound as good as these ALCOs, I get a pair of them as well.

It looks good, but.....

I love the original packaging! The hard case was perfect and I wish all N scale locomotives were packaged that way. The tender truck has a Micro Trains coupler on an aftermarket mount- it protrudes out from the tender way too far and is canted at an angle. This makes it very difficult in coupling cars. The engine will not stay on the track- the front pilot continually derails after a few feet, which we theorize may be due to the odd angle of the tender coupler. This engine will need some TLC to see if I can get it to pull cars around the layout without derailing. Micro surgery on an N scale steamer is not my specialty, but in this case I'd like to see if I can get it to perform reliably. Rather disappointing performance and I would not purchase another! It might look pretty impressive as a static display on the garden tracks at the roundhouse, but it makes for a rather expensive statue.
