Great book about a super special writer!
This is an interesting book about Julia Peterkin and her writings. She wrote Scarlett Sister Mary, Black April, Green Thursday, A Plantation Christmas, among other books. She wrote during the 1920's through 1950 and wrote about the people she knew on plantation life in South Carolina.

    Heaven Is a Beautiful Place
A great book about the events in the life of a South Carolina woman who lived a fantastic life. Her stories, from ghost stories, family stories, beach stories, World War II stories, to gullah stories, are wonderfully expressed. She gives of herself to everyone who reads the book. You feel you know her, her family and her friends. She discusses, death, life, religion, friends, poverty, failures, successes and life in general. The chapters are short, with the topics changing quickly, so a 5-10 minute read would produce some interesting topics. I like to read 30 minutes a day, so in reading this I could read about 3-4 different events, all relating to real life.

    Return to Sullivans Island
If you have read any of Dorothea Benton Frank's books you must read this one. It continues the story of Sullivans Island, but it could be independent upon itself, if the first book has not been read. Her characters are so real to life that you feel you are part of the book and incorporated into the events. A true beach book that is a great read.
