Italian Folk Tales Selected and Retold by Italo Calvino

A wonderful compilation of unique and surprising Italian folktales from all over the peninsula and Sicily.

A very hard to find title, long out-of-print, this is a great book to read aloud to older children, or for adult diversion/amusement. (However, for devotees of folk tales, an absolute must!) Wrapped with laudable TLC, and in near-mint condition for a 25 year old paperback. Far surpassing all expectations!

Secret Beyond the Door

This would be a better movie if the recording quality were acceptable, but it is extremely grainy, to the point of fuzziness. (Imagine watching a HD or Blu-ray, only with cotton balls taped over your eyes!) Once past that -if possible - the film is first rate. A lot like Hitchcock's Rebecca, but not merely a rip off. Check out Mrs Thurston Howell III in a cameo role. Joan Bennet of "Dark Shadows" fame stars. Acting and directing are first rate. "The Secret Beyond the Door" is a psychological allegory personifying the conflicting emotions of a man entering into the profound committment of marriage, presented in Gothic/ mystery genre. Four star movie trapped in a zero star taping. Wait for the DVD.
