Replacement suspension rods fixed the problem
The washing machine let me know that it was in need of a fix when it started to jump about on the spin cycle and then shut off with a message that the load was out of balance. It got to the point where several attempts to even out the load still failed to keep it happy. A quick search of the net disclosed this to be a common problem with the suspension system losing its dampening effect. Replacing the suspension rods fixed the problem and was easy to do. Make sure you get the replacement rods from Fisher & Paykel as I was advised that generic replacements don't work as well.
