works with a minor mod
2 of 2 found this helpful so when i first got this geiger counter i started testing it with some AM-241 (yes i know it is a alpha emitter but has has some gamma too) and it would not detect it at all after some research i found that the tube (m4011 i think though labeled a j321) should be getting between 350 and 450 volts which the power supply in the detector was making however there was a 2 megohm resistor in circuit that was clamping the voltage for the tube to 323 volts so i bypassed that with a 4.6k ohm one (its what i had on hand) now the voltage is 380v and the detector picks up on the AM-241 now.
pros: cost, size, ability to be modded if wanted
cons: required a mod to make it function, measures in uSv/h with no way to change the scale
