An unforgettable Love Story
The Painted Veil is based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham. It is a very moving love story about a young English couple. It is set in 1925 in China during a horrendous cholera epidemic. The photography is magnificent, the acting is without doubt some of the best I have seen for a long while. The main actors Naomi Watts and Edward Norton play their difficult roles in a truly convincing way. You feel their anguish and feel for each of them. The understated and sometimes terse dialogue conveys their emotions very effectively and so much feeling is conveyed without the need for words. The supporting cast is superbly chosen as each character shows a different aspect of the situation in the Chinese province. The piano music is played by Lang Lang.

A sublime performance.
This recording is a 'must have' for lovers of Beethoven. Shlomo Mintz and the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli give an incomparable performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto and the playing of the Romances is exquisite.

the title is eminently suitable. i light of the story.
The Sting is one of the best 'cons' in movie history. A superb cast. A few tense moments and a great finale.
