A foundation for so many ways in which mental health is viewed today

Millon's model was revolutionary when it came out, and this very hard to find book is the Bible for his model. In addition, it is a foundation for other models and easily integrates with more humanistic models from Adlerian (see Rasmussen's Adaptive Reorientation model) to Existentialism. Even the modern cognitive-behavioral models can benefit from Millon's point of view.

Adler presented as the creator he was

Alfred Adler is really the father of humanistic psychology. His model was such a departure from Freud's deterministic model. It was based on helping real people with real problems. What Hoffman succeeds in doing is bring Adler back to life and showing us how his life was totally integrated with his model. Feminist writers will be impressed with Adler's early devotion to feminist practice, and even attachment theorists will find a strong foundation for their work in Adler's model. This was a very enjoyable read.
