It worked.
Way cheaper simply to rent the books and then buy an access code separately. I got all 3 Microsoft 2013 books for $20 each, rentals, and then bought the access code. It's really just a matter of money over convenience though, because my college was selling the whole package for $300, or just the code was $115. Having the code come in over mail wasn't bad because SAM gives you nearly a month's grace period for you to enter the access code.
