Just what I wanted

I use this when taking pictures of birds and other wildlife in daylight where there may be backlighting from the sun or shadows that need to be filled in. I added a Better Beamer fresnel lens extender and am very pleased with the range and flexibility that allows me to take pictures at even the fastest shutter speeds. It never seems to slow me down and often brings out additional detail and colors. The build quality and performance are great. I am using Nimh batteries and am happy with the number of shots and days before requiring recharge. I leave it on standby 24/7 with no problems.Read full review...

Not much good outdoors

I bought this flash for outdoor fill light. Turns out it doesn't work well in daylight outside. First, you have to have the sensor (red circle low on the right as you look at the back of the flash) facing your camera and camera and sensor have to be visible to each other. So forget about shoot-through fill flash on your subject's left side. Sunlight also messes with the connection. And I've read that distance also causes a problem. I haven't encountered this, but I've only used it at about 5 meters.

I'll use this indoors as well, but the point of a small, portable flash is to use it in situations where studio flash is impractical. I suppose a wifi sync or, god forbid, a cable will solve my problem, but I bought a d7200 in part because these things would be wireless. Nikon calls it "wireless." it's actually infrared, shame on you Nikon.I didn't know at the time that the sb600 is an infrared connection. I would have looked further into it before buying camera and flash.

So be warned: if you want this for outdoors, you probably need a wifi sync.

Inside, the flash is great: easy and consistent. But so are studio flashes.

Just the right flash for my needs

I am still learning how to use this flash on my Nikon D7000. The camera and flash seem to work well together. All the automated features seem to work well with the D7000. I am now trying to learn some more creative applications of the flash on the camera. Adding a powerful flash like the SB 600 is improving my photographic results already.Read full review...

Nikon SB600 Speedlight

For a great majority of Nikon digital cameras the old workhorse SB600 is an easy to use, mid-power flash.

Basically, it's a plug and play unit. I have 3 of them and love them.

Great backup or starter flash

This flash is discontinued, but a good used one will provide years of service for a hobby photographer. With Nikon cameras that have command mode in programming you can use this flash remotely without cable. Before you purchase on check with NikonUSA to see if your camera can use the command mode with the SB600. I purchased new one in 2010 for backup flash of SB900 and a used one for assistant just recently.Read full review...

Nikon SB-600 Speed Light

I purchased this for my son's girlfriend who is a budding photographer.
She recently received a Nikon D3300 from my son and I am giving it as Christmas present.

I have one and have been very happy with what it does. I am a hobbyist and it serves my needs.
I wish that her D3300 offered commander mode so that she could be creative with off camera flash photography.
I have it in my ancient Nikon D80 and was very surprised that hers did not have it.
I mean c'mon. How expensive would it be for Nikon to offer commander mode in all their DSLR cameras that have a hot shoe....right? I mean open up the doors to creative photography for crying out loud!
Anyway, this is not about the camera but about the SB-600.
It is a well built powerful flash that really helps to make better photos and especially photographs taken in the dark.
Some say it's not powerful enough and that people should consider purchasing a bigger one.
It really depends on what they want to do. In the mean time for me, it's great.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good flash that can do much more than the basic on -camera flash.

The Nikon SB-600; The Super Speedlight!

I have been using Nikon SB-600 Speed Lights for about 4 years now. When I need to use a Speed Light for a project, my favorite is the Nikon SB-600. It works excellent with the Nikon Creative Lighting System. I sometimes will shoot with three of them at one time. It is very simple and fast to program. It has many features and is very powerful. Also, the SB-600 price is very low, usually under $200.

Used nikkon SB600 speedlight

arrived in a timely manner- I do like the 600 speed light - this particular one has does have an issue with the battery lid- it needs to be moved back and forth to make it work- seems like the batteries are not all making contact- once working , it is fine- I paid $100 for it- so it was a good buy- it will be used for a backup flash or off the camera- I will be buying a new 700 to go with this 600Read full review...

Nikon flash

U can not beat nikon nothing like it. I have nikon equipment for years and it never failed. I do know nothing about canon which i hear is very good also. My expiriance with olympus is not the best especially with there speed lights. To epansive and not dependable. There used equipment really drops in value which speaks for itself.

Good condition good price

This speedlight is what I was looking for to increase the quality and use of my Nikon DSLR D5000. It does add weight to the camera but the benefits, properly lighted subjects, greatly out weigh that issue.
I appreciate that the item was as described and came with some accessories, which I haven't used professionally yet. I look forward to all the great photos I will take with this speedlight.
