These are some of the features that the Nikon D5100 has confirmed with my purchase.
Already in my daily use of my Nikon D5100, it is very lightweight suitable for making shots in any environment, compact, sleek, makes very good shots with great quality.
Also eh video recording of very high deficinion (1080p), and I was very excited about the result, has been my best acquisition, I love the quality of photographs and videos.
The product came in good condition, and I had good contact with the seller, so I highly recommend it.Read full review...

Nikon can use old SLR lenses still in manual mode...NICE
Ease of use might be different, but I am a novice at best, but with that aid some images arent as sharp as I wold expect when in auto mode.

Perfect for beginners
Do not spend hundreds if you have never had a DSLR. Buy used older model, learn the basics, then decide to upgrade if necessary. 90% of what you will learn, you can do with a camera like this one. The jump in quality from your phone camera or point-and-shoot to this DLSR will be huge in comparison with the extra quality you will get from a more expensive DSLR. Being a beginner, you will not be able to recognize the extra quality anyways, nor justify the additional cost.Read full review...

Great Camera,,, easy to use
I bought this camera to do some light video and amateur photography.. I use to be a Canon believer for many years but their equipment became more and more frustrating to use. I found this camera to be incredibly user friendly.. I simply dont have time or motivation to dedicate part of my life to photography, but I have a strong background with digital equipment so I was able to intuitively use this camera. The fold away monitor is absolutely one of the strongest features of this camera. I can hold the camera over my head or down low at my feet, using live view on the screen and take great pics where otherwise I would simply have to point and shoot and wish for the best. The video has a separate button to make it easy to rapid fire a video, which is incredibly useful. All in all a great camera and I would recommend!Read full review...

They were very helpful and willing to bend over backwards to be more so!
Very happy with this camera. Their description was very conservative...actually, the camera condition was better than what they described. There was a small issue, which turned out to be an operational problem on my part...they suggested a few things and it resolved...all the while indicating that if I wasn't happy, I could return it. I will seek these people out when I'm in the market for a product that they may just have.Read full review...

Good; but you could buy not a set and still have a great deal.
Honestly, the only good thing about this kit is the camera and kit lens.
The extra stuff is all junk. The tripod is actually worth $4 on Amazon, it wobbles and I would not trust my camera on that. The bag is okay, same brand as the tripod but I'm still going to upgrade my bag and not trust the straps.
The memory cards are useful, the holder is useful, the cleaners are useful, and the UV screw on lens is useful.
The wide angle and telephoto you could do without, the quality is shotty so it just causes your photos to look bad.Read full review...
I need time to figure out how to use this product. My only past experience is with point & shoot and standard SLR cameras.
My only disappointment is that Nikon doesn't include a booklet with the product. They include a CD with the manual on it, but I can't carry my computer with me when I'm out shooting photos.Read full review...

High-end camera, just from a few years back. Buy this one!
My overall rating is based on what I expected for a camera in my price range. The camera has everything you might want in an entry-level DSLR; plus a few extras that are just for fluff.
I bought a 50mm f1.8 AF-D lens. I like the manual focus for creativity and experimenting. My camera came with the 18-55mm kit lens and I think it is actually a great mid-range zoom lens. When you start investing into lenses, keep in mind that this model can not auto focus with the older lenses. If you pay for a better body, with the auto focusing motor built in, you can save money on the lens in the long run - unless you don't mind manual focus, then you can save across the board with this camera.
The D5100 is light, seems durable and is easy to use. I compared cameras for two weeks before my purchase: my conclusion was that it excels in more (important) areas than other cameras in the same class. Don't worry about megapixels, worry about ISO quality more. This camera's ISO is commendable all things considered.Read full review...
a better value than the cannon rebel!
i decided that nikon or pentax k - mount was the way to go since cannon gives such poor parts support after the warrantee is done.
this model has many features that remind me of the old film slr days and yet it also encompasses the newer digital era technology as well. it fits comfortably in the hand with a good placement of the shutter release. angled so as not to cause jiggling upon releasing of the shutter. i like the option of the angle adjustment of the screen but i prefer the view finder since it is a slr.
the only neg thought i can see so far is i'd prefer a shutter speed number dial instead of symbols. and true the 18-55 kit lens is not as smooth as the older slr lenses i am used to but it is not bad.
also i can't believe cannon choose to use the rebel body for their basis for their dlsr. that poorly made plastic body had more problems than their old AE1 body had. the AE1 was very popular with many lenses still available but when they went to the eos rebel they orphaned all of those users (instead of bridging them as ongoing buyers))
i used to buy only cannon products but since they seem to have abandon their products and loyal customers i don't buy cannon products anymore.
at least nikon and pentax only make cameras (not printers, printer ink , or copiers ect. hence they are not going to make up the lost camera sale when they sell you a new printer with a tiny ink tank ) .
dollar for dollar the nikon has the edge over the cannon since it has a bit more pixels for almost the same and if not sometimes a slightly lower price.Read full review...
