Mellencamp Does It Again

John Mellencamp is one of music's more interesting artist. Mellencamp has always had a problem being called a Heartland Rocker and actually thinks his music is undefined and that is largely true. If you actually do a deep dive of his catalog and not just listen to the radio hits, you will find a diverse artist who has invoked a lot of different styles. In fact, some of his newer albums have become increasingly less rock and more singer-songwriter folk like music.

Freedom's Road is an album where you begin to see a change in Mellencamp's writing. Yes this album still has some of his trademark rock sound but you see a big of a change in the lyrics and the songs are a little more personal and at times even political. One could argue "Our Country" is one of Mellencamp's last true anthems intended for the masses and it is a great song.

In fact, many of the songs on this album are great and this actually is one of Mellencamp's stronger albums from start to finish.
