This tributary starts in the Blacks Hills of S.D. and erodes through the 69-74 million-year-old Western Interior Sea bed, the Pierre Shale Formation, exposing large concretions filled with extinct Ammonites such as Placenticeras, Baculites & Scaphites, Nautilus and the giant clam, Inoceramus. Over two dozen different Cephalopods and six associated Septarian Minerals occur at this amazing locality including, Golden Barite and Yellow Calcite.
