All of my Sailor's Valentines are influenced by my years of floral designing, gardening and my love of seashells. A Sailor's Valentine is an eight sided wooden box filled with elaborate patterns and flowers crafted of seashells, then covered with glass. Sailor's Valentines originated in Barbados between 1830 and 1880. Sailor's from American and English ships stopping to port bought these beautiful shell crafted boxes as tokens of love and affection to give to wives, sweethearts and daughters after being away at sea for long periods of time. I use shells from all over the world and the finest hand - made hardwood boxes. My Sailor's Valentines have won awards at the Sanibel Shel Show and the Cape Cod Shell Show. I am also a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
