The Air Jordan 12 first graced store shelves in 1996. Michael Jordan wore the shoes throughout the 1996-1997 season while playing for the Chicago Bulls. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 12 was the first sneaker in the franchise to incorporate Zoom Air technology.

In addition to debuting Zoom Air, the Air Jordan 12 fuses a leather upper and a carbon fiber midfoot shank. Radiating lines extend from midfoot to collar and heel counter, reflecting design inspiration from Japan's Rising Sun flag. Colorways are typically monochrome, tonal, or two-tone, with midsole, midfoot, and heel counters often in contrasting colors.

Air Jordan shoes often predominantly feature red, a nod to the OG Bred colorway. The OG Air Jordan 12s available on eBay dropped in five colorways, two of which showcased red. One such shoe is the famous black and red Flu Game Air Jordan, still very popular to this day.
Starting in 2003, the Jordan brand began to rerelease Air Jordan 12s in a host of colorways. The Black/Varsity Red Flu Game colorway reappeared in 2003, 2009, and 2016, complementing a Red/Black/White colorway, which also rereleased in 2009 and 2016. The following year, Air Jordan went from red to reddish-purple with the release of a Jordan 12 Retro red in Bordeaux.
Jordan 12 Retro Red: Endless Variety
Jordan always treats fans to Retro Air Jordans in OG colorways, like the 2018 Jordan 12 Retro in Gym Red. In 2020, the Air Jordan Retro 12 took on a reverse Flu Game colorway. This iteration retains the OG silhouette and radiating lines in a fun, flipped colorway. The shoe does this with a pattern all in stitched suede on the upper.
Jordan 12 Retro red shoes come in other reddish or red-accented styles fit for the whole family and available on eBay. There's the 2004 women's Jordan Retro 12 Low in pink and silver, and there’s also the 2011 Jordan Retro 12 Red Low. A highlight in this subcategory is the 2009 Jordan 12 Retro Varsity Red, aptly nicknamed Rising Sun. Its red pull tab and sock liner against an all-white upper is crisp, minimalist, and sporty.
