The Air Jordan 4 introduced the “flight” concept to the Air Jordan line. Air Jordan 4 began where 3 left off, further establishing the line’s status as the most important and popular sneakers in the world. They were released in 1989 and produced in four colorways throughout the year.

Following the same color schemes as Air Jordan 3, the Jordan 4 was released in two white-based bulls colorways, Fire Red and Cement/White, a Red/Black colorway, and a blue and white accented colorway known as Military Blue.

The design did not stray far from Jordan 3, as the visible heel air unit and the mid-cut height both made their returns. However, Air Jordan 4 was lighter and more streamlined than the Jordan 3. The signature design details were the unique lacing support system with the shoe's iconic Wings and the mesh netting on the tongue and side panels.

The black/cement version debuted by his Airness at the 1989 NBA All-Star game in Houston perfectly replicated the iconic Air Jordan 3 and ditched the shoe’s signature elephant print for a more streamlined look. Jordan continued to go with the Black/Cement colorway for most of the season’s remaining slate after rocking the kicks in the All-Star game.

Air Jordan 4 White/Cement 1989

Air Jordan 4 Fire Red 1989

This is the pair Jordan himself wore most on-court back when they debuted, aside from the Black/Cement colorway. Also, the pair served as the basis for a couple of the 4’s more popular retros.

Air Jordan 4 Military Blue 1989

This pair never made an on-court appearance on Jordan’s feet. It was a lone iteration of the original Air Jordan 4 that did not feature a Chicago Bull-inspired color scheme. Instead, these opted for a light gray mudguard with military blue accents and white leather.

Air Jordan 4 Cool Gray 2004

They also hold the distinction of being the first 4s ever to spot any yellow. Something that will go on to highlight some of the silhouettes' best retro colorways.

Air Jordan 4 Thunder and Lightning Pack 2006

Yellow was the color of choice for the Jumpman unique Thunder and Lightning pack. They were available online only for Team Jordan members and required you to sign in to purchase. The Lightning version was packaged with a Rare Air t-shirt, while the Thunder look came with a special jacket.
